Here's
what's going on...
Salt Glazed Pottery is here!
Our salt-glaze kiln has started to turn out some amazing
works. Paul has worked hard since last July to complete this large project.
Beautiful orange peel surfaces and drippy ash glazes adorn the surfaces
of his rich stoneware pieces. Vases, mugs, bakers, teapots and his specialty
...jugs can all be found in the showroom at the studio this summer.
A selection is also available at Styll
in Elora. Come to the studio, see the mammoth kiln and the beautiful
works created in it. This historic process is so different from other
styles of pottery. A must see and a must have.
Events, events, events...
-

Plant Farm for their 3rd Annual - Canada Day, Eh! Celebration. Artisans
will display their works throughout the lovely gardens and plantings.
Visitors can purchase fabulous plants and artworks over this 4 day
show. Open 10-6 daily. Go
to WildThings for details and see you there!
- June 28th and July1st - We will be holding special demonstations
and a "Play with Clay" Station for kids of all ages at
the studio. It's part of special events being held to launch the
2008 Butter Tart Trail ! This fun and wacky road trip includes interesting
folks like ourselves, great makers of the all-Canadian Butter Tart,
antiques, rural attractions, and farm gate producers. It's a fun
day trip whether you take it in by car or strap on your helmet and
do it on your bicycle. (Tip: The latter option helps to work off
the Butter Tarts! ) For the 2008 tour map visit the Wellington
North website, and enjoy. Don't forget to come by and get your
hands dirty!
- July 19th - We'll be exhibiting at Art
on the Street in downtown Guelph. This year the show is being
held on Quebec Street and promises to be a beautiful day filled
with art and inspiration.
- Also on July 19th we encourage you to come to Mount Forest for
the annual Fireworks
Festival. It really is a special event which boasts the best
fireworks around. Fireworks start at 10pm on July 19th and are organized
by the Mount Forest Chamber of Commerce. Be sure to pop in to the
studio if you're coming up for this event. (The studio and showroom
will be open.)
- September 13th and 14th - Join us in Guelph for the first Guelph
Pottery and Sculpture Festival being held at the Arboretum at
the University of Guelph. This event coincides with the annual plant
sale. An absolutely lovely location for an art show.
'Night & Day Studio spearheads
Empty Bowls Project in support of local Food Bank !'
If you visit the studio this August, chances are you
will come across a 'sea of soup bowls'. Beginning mid-month
we will be hosting a number of professional potters who have all volunteered
their time and talent to create soup bowls for a new fundraiser being
held in Elora this fall. The fundraiser is called "Empty
Bowls" and will be part of a larger festival called "Sensational
Elora - a festival of the senses" . Our studio has donated
the time and space to create the bowls (our goal is 500 - 600 bowls).
These bowls will then be sold in October at various venues including
our gallery, Styll.
This is a huge undertaking and a very rewarding project. Our goal is
to raise over $10000 over the 11 days of the festival in support of
the Centre Wellington Food Bank. Please come by the studio to see us
in action! We will be taking donations on site in August but also encourage
you to come to Elora this fall and take part in all the wonderful events
happening there! Potter's already confirmed :
Elsa Mann & Paul Kaye Jinni Hartmann
Wanda Densmore Jan Bentley
Sheilah Fournier Monique
Lippert Richard Mund Dale
Mark
...and more to be confirmed at a later date...
