2 Day Raku Workshop

August 2nd and August 22nd - 10am - 5pm daily

Learn the Japanese firing technique, make your own pots to fire, and have a blast! No experience necessary. A great workshop to take with a friend. We pot luck lunch each day...just for fun! Where possible we make our pots outdoors and if it's hot, the studio is nice an cool. Come play with fire!

$175 +gst ( max 8 participants)

Kid's (and big kids)
Play with Clay Afternoon

Choose from the following dates:
August 3rd, 1-3pm or August 23rd, 1-3pm

This workshop is a way to introduce kids to working with clay. It will focus on handbuilding techniques and having fun.
Possible projects include: a whistle, a planter, a dog or cat dish or a name plaque for your room.
This is a parent-child workshop. Each child must be accompanied by an adult, and vice versa! That could be a parent, grandparent, uncle, aunt, caregiver/babysitter etc. Everyone gets their hands dirty!

Note: Children ages 5 and older.

$55 +gst ( incl. registration for one child and one adult)
Workshop is limited to 6 pairs.

Raku Immersion

August 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and final firing class on August 22nd
9:30am - 4:30pm daily ( with a break for lunch)

A new intensive workshop filled with raku firing, exercises geared to expand your creativity, wheel throwing techniques and explorations in handbuilding. Those experienced with clay will build on their skill set and leave the course with many new avenues to pursue. Those with little to no clay experience will be energized by the endless possibilities that clay can hold,...more than any other medium.
A supportive and enriching environment to let your creative side shine through.


This course will offer a number of opportunities to:

  • explore the raku firing process
  • understand the intricacies of horse-hair raku firings
  • learn or build on your wheel throwing skills
  • experiment with altered forms
  • utilize extrusions for the basis of pieces
  • create your own tools to explore textures in clay

$ 300 +gst (max. 6 participants)

Art Tiles

Choose from the following times:
August 11th, 9am - noon or August 11th, 2-5pm

Have you ever wanted to create your own art tiles for your home? Now's your chance. Using one of two multi-layering sculpting techniques, you can create a large tile (or series of smaller tiles) which will reveal layers of texture and detail. Come with a theme in mind, or use any of the examples on hand at the studio. Clip images from magazines for inspiration.

No experience necessary. Those individuals who love details will thoroughly enjoy this workshop.

$50 +gst (maximum of 6 participants)

Art tiles - Raku and Terracotta

     

Figurative Sculpture
... a day of exploring the human form

August 21st - 10 am - 3pm ( with a break for lunch)

This workshop begins the journey to understanding the human form. "Seeing" and translating what you see into the clay is the primary focus of this introductory level workshop. Ideal for those who have often wanted to try figurative sculpture. We will explore the aspects of realism vs abstract form in the figures we attempt. A very relaxing and reflective workshop.

$70 +gst ( maximum of 6 participants)

Creative Bird Houses


Choose from the following times:
August 24th, 9am - noon or August 24th, 2pm - 5pm

Sculpt your own whimsical terracotta bird house created specifically with small songbirds in mind! A fun project for beginners, or for something different. Elsa will have examples for you to choose from, but feel free to bring your own ideas to the workshop! No experience required. Sign up with a friend and enjoy the fun together. (This is a great workshop for those just wanting to try the art of pottery or for those who can't commit to a lengthy course.) Enjoy the atmosphere at Night & Day Studio, and enjoy the fun of working with clay.
